Role Summary

Free People Movement is seeking a Temporary Design Assistant (3-6 Months) to support our Performance Outwear and Snow team!  This role works in support of the Designer with seasonal development calendar by executing original design ideas and business goals.  FP Movement. A destination for life well-lived.

Role Responsibilities

  • Manage building and updating packs for key milestone meetings. 

  • Sample management, photographing samples and details for design team. 

  • Maintain an active role in the weekly Design Flow Meetings. Take notes and manage follow up communication on all outstanding issues in collaboration with Designer. 

  • Support seasonal development calendar in partnership with designer/buyers/technical designers/production. 

  • Execute specific design development projects as assigned by Designer and manage development and execution of trim and artwork packages. 

  • Set up spec sheets for all private label product & assist Design Lead with market developments & follow-up communication as needed. 

  • Partner with PD on the status of styles in development daily to ensure product execution meets design specifications and are on track in style development process. 

  • Assist in completing technical sketches for domestic and overseas programs, set up spec sheets for all private label product & assist Designer with market developments as well as follow-up communication as needed. 

  • Prepare development packages and participate in follow up communication related to each package. 

  • Review incoming garments with Designer and PD partners to ensure they are correct and in line with original intent as well as brand standards. 

  • Assist in sample & rack preparation for monthly sales review meetings by collaborating with Designer on innovative presentations that effectively communicate line to Buyers and Brand leaders. 

  • Perform special tasks as needed. 

Role Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design and some industry experience is preferred.

  • Ability to be ON SITE at our offices in Philadelphia, PA 4-5 Days per week.
  • Design tools: Procreate, Adobe (Illustrator, Photoshop, In Design, Wacom tablet) 

  • Sewing, draping, mocking experience 

  • Excellent communication skills to communicate ideas and inspirations to others and to interact with Designers, Buyers and other Cross Functional partners.   

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to intuitively respond and reprioritize as needs shift during the development process. 

  • Entry level technical knowledge of apparel construction. 

  • Entry level knowledge of fabric treatments as well as wash and dye techniques 

  • Ability to hand sketch and communicate design ideas via computer program.
