Role Summary

Urban Outfitters is looking for an Associate Buyer of Women’s Jewelry, Hair Accessories and Sunglasses, responsible for working with the Senior Buyer and creating an exciting and timely product assortment for the retail and direct businesses that meet or exceed sales volume and profit for the department.

Role Responsibilities

  • Supporting the daily operations within designated buying areas and developing partnerships with the Senior Buyer and Assistant Buyer on all necessary tasks
  • Ownership of buying a product class within the buying area
  • Ability to conceptually plan assortments that meet financial objectives
  • Identify and drive the next viral accessory and maximize its sales potential, executing development of product
  • Live and breathe the cultural shifts that dictate how our customer accessorizes Monitor social conversation, street style, and niche influencers to stay ahead of the curve.
  • Manage your category’s Open to Buy (OTB). Use real-time sales trends to execute reorders or markdowns that maximize profitability and inventory turn.
  • Delegating and directing the daily activities of the Assistant Buyer and provide direction to the team
  • Personnel skills to work well with cross functional partners and team to achieve plans
  • Working closely with planning to understand financial indicators to react and drive business
  • Work with the Senior Buyer to determine the overall mix of market and Owned Brand product
  • Learning from buying mistakes and applying those learnings to future buys
  • Confidently vocalizing opinions proactively in cross functional or larger merchant meetings
  • Prioritizing and reacting with a sense of urgency to the requests from both the Buying and Cross Functional teams

Role Qualifications

  • 3-5 years in a fast-paced retail buying role, with a strong preference for accessories or youth-culture-focused brands
  • Experience presenting to company leadership
  • Demonstrated experience in a highly entrepreneurial environment
  • Full command of retail math and the ability to pivot strategy based on weekly, monthly, seasonal performance
  • A deep understanding of the UO customer. You know what they’re wearing, what they’re listening to, and how they’re styling their lives
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with Design, Planning, and Production
