Role Summary

Free People is looking for a Senior technical designer in Soft Woven's who will be responsible for all aspects of style development including block development, setup of initial tech packs, 3D and digital fits, physical sample fittings, TOP approvals, predicting and planning for production friendly garments, general understanding of garment washes and pattern shrinkage, expert in grading and tolerances, and full ownership managing QC callouts and resolutions.

Role Responsibilities

  • Expertly manages style development with trust of peers, strategizes with cross functional teams to manage to calendar and cost.
  • Primarily individual contributor but may also act in a mentorship capacity or category leader for a cross-functional initiative.
  • Helps mentor, onboard, and train more junior team members.
  • Proactive and persuasive communications with managers, coworkers, cross functional partners and factories, ability to analyze issues and action resolution with fit and qa issues. 
  • Able to successfully execute strategies set independently and actualize results to support future improvements for upcoming seasons.
  • Clearly communicates progress on individual tasks.
  • Listens actively and asks questions that appropriately show understanding.
  • Full grasp of effective global communication via fit comments, email, and zoom meetings.

Role Qualifications

  • Experienced with live fittings, both physical and digital. 
  • Ability to be a decision maker and independently make fit/pattern corrections without supervision while also addressing all issues for quicker fit approvals. 
  • Proficient understanding of what different teams do and the various roles with those teams.
  • Often provides support for larger projects.
  • Must be extremely flexible and adaptable to work with fast paced calendars, ability to juggle multiple design and buying teams, while simultaneously focusing on product elevation.
  • Takes feedback well and adjusts actions accordingly.
  • experience with CLO 3D/Clo-set for reviewing fit/pattern corrections.
