Role Summary

URBN is hiring a Staff Platform Engineer to join the development of AI-powered digital experiences. We are looking for an experienced Platform Engineer to join our mission of integrating algorithmic solutions with creative tools. In this unique opportunity, you will use your Platform engineering skills to implement experiences and cutting-edge algorithms into our rapidly evolving products across our digital ecosystem. You will collaborate with a talented cross-functional team comprising UX designers, data scientists, product managers, and domain experts to deliver significant business impact.

Role Responsibilities

- Experience: Proven track record in Platform, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering.
- Cloud Expertise: Deep knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services (Cloud Run, BigQuery, AlloyDB, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, IAM).
- IaC Mastery: Extensive experience with Terraform and/or OpenTofu. Familiarity with TACoS (Terraform Automation and Collaboration Software) is a major plus.
- Automation Advocate: Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) and automation tools.
- Development Skills: Proficiency in Python and comfortable navigating complex microservices and data pipelines in our monorepo.
- Security-Minded: A security-first mindset, valuing zero-trust networks and secure-by-default infrastructure.
- Culture Contributor: You are respectful, kind, and caring. You communicate effectively across remote and in-person environments and thrive in a culture that embraces rapid technological change.

Role Qualifications

- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Design, deploy, and maintain our OpenTofu/Terraform modules. You'll enforce our strict DRY modular architecture, ensuring reproducible environments (Dev, Prod) with zero configuration drift and secure defaults.
- Secure by Default: Champion security across the platform. Implement zero-trust designs, least-privilege IAM, GCP Secret Manager integrations, and robust authentication layers (e.g., Identity-Aware Proxy, Workload Identity Federation, etc.).
- Automation & CI/CD: Build and manage continuous integration and delivery pipelines using GitHub Actions and TACoS (e.g., Digger). You value automated testing, linting, and reproducible builds.
- Observability & Reliability: Enhance our GCP-native observability stack (Cloud Monitoring, SLOs, Alert Policies) to ensure our FastAPI services and Cloud Run instances maintain excellent uptime, performance, and clear correlation tracking with request traces and spans.
- AI-Driven Engineering: Embrace and help shape our Agentic AI workflows. While you may not be an AI expert yet, you understand that leveraging AI assistants is a non-negotiable imperative for modern engineering teams. You will use your experienced guiding hand to ensure AI-generated code meets our strict standards for uptime, security, and maintainability.
- Python Ecosystem: Bring your comfort with Python to help maintain our core tooling, orchestration (Airflow/LangGraph), and shared infrastructure libraries (managed via `uv` & Pydantic), recognizing that human oversight is critical even as AI writes more production code.
- Mentorship & Collaboration: Act as a mentor to less experienced team members, actively seeking to "level up" those around you. Communicate technical decisions clearly and respectfully, whether in deep architectural design sessions or via remote Slack discussions.

Bonus:
- Experience managing AI/ML infrastructure, specifically Vertex AI or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with our specific stack: FastAPI, Pydantic, dbt, Airflow, and LangGraph.
- Experience building CLI tooling and utilizing task runners like `just` to craft a fantastic developer experience for your teams.
