Role Summary

URBN is hiring a Senior Network Engineer! We're looking for a forward-thinking network engineer who thrives at the intersection of traditional infrastructure and modern automation. You'll play a key role in evolving our network from manually managed to infrastructure-as-code — driving the tools, practices, and architecture that support a globally distributed retail and e-commerce brand.

Role Responsibilities

Network Infrastructure & Architecture

  • Design, build, implement, and support enterprise network systems across LAN, WAN, WLAN, and data center environments
  • Manage enterprise firewall, load balancer, and VPN infrastructure across internet-facing, DMZ, and internal segments
  • Architect and maintain scalable, resilient network solutions aligned with business growth and retail operations needs

Automation & Infrastructure as Code

  • Develop and maintain network automation workflows using Ansible — including playbooks for configuration management, provisioning, compliance enforcement, and change management
  • Write Python scripts and tooling to support network operations, event-driven automation, API integrations, and custom reporting
  • Champion a "automate first" culture within the network team, identifying repetitive manual processes and replacing them with repeatable, version-controlled automation
  • Collaborate with DevOps and platform engineering teams to integrate network workflows into CI/CD pipelines

Security & Compliance

  • Maintain deep expertise in network security design — stateful firewalls, IDS/IPS, NAC, and authentication systems
  • Ensure consistent security posture across multi-vendor environments, wireless networks, and remote/branch locations
  • Support audit, compliance, and change control processes with automation and documentation

Strategy & Collaboration

  • Partner with IT leadership to shape the long-term network roadmap, with a focus on SD-WAN, automation maturity, and cloud connectivity
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior and mid-level network staff
  • Translate complex technical concepts for both business and engineering stakeholders

Role Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience managing enterprise network infrastructure in large, multi-site environments

Technical Skills

  • Routing & Switching: Expert-level knowledge of BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, STP, VLANs, and related protocols
  • SD-WAN: Hands-on experience with SD-WAN platforms (e.g., Cisco Viptela, Meraki, VeloCloud/VMware, Palo Alto Prisma SD-WAN)
  • Automation: Proficiency with Ansible for network automation; solid Python programming skills with experience using libraries such as Netmiko, NAPALM, Nornir, or pyATS
  • Security: Firewalls (Palo Alto, Fortinet, or Cisco ASA/FTD), VPN (IPsec, SSL), and zero-trust network concepts
  • Equipment: Experience with the following a plus; Cisco Nexus, Juniper EX, Juniper MX, Juniper MIST, Cisco WLC, Arista VeloCloud, Palo Alto Firewalls, A10 Load Balancers, Infoblox, Clearpass, PRTG, Pure SANs, Brocade Fiber Channel.

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make clear, decisive calls under pressure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication — comfortable presenting to both technical teams and business stakeholders
  • Collaborative team player who can also work independently and manage competing priorities

Other Skills

  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and apply them in a production environment
  • Strong time management and follow-through on projects and incidents
  • Availability for after-hours, on-call support as needed
