Role Summary

URBN is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Indirect Tax team as an Indirect Tax Specialist. This role will provide hands-on experience across a wide range of indirect tax responsibilities, including sales & use tax compliance, licensing, exemption management, and audit support. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, highly organized, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Role Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation and filing of high-volume U.S. sales & use tax (SUT) and Canadian GST/HST/QST/PST returns.
  • Perform detailed monthly and quarterly reconciliation of sales and use tax liabilities and conduct transactional analysis and data reconciliations between Vertex and the general ledger to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Manage the full life cycle of business license renewals and registrations for all URBN brands.
  • Maintain exemption certificates and support the validation process for audit readiness.
  • Support indirect tax audits by pulling data, preparing analyses, and assisting with responses to auditors.
  • Research basic tax issues and work with senior team members to provide recommendations to business partners.
  • Help resolve notices and inquiries from taxing jurisdictions by gathering information and drafting responses.
  • Assist with the yearly budgeting process and analyze monthly variances.
  • Assist with system maintenance, process improvements, and other tax projects as assigned.

Role Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience in accounting, tax, or related field; experience in large corporate environment a plus.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting or tax principles; willingness to learn indirect tax concepts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel & Word); exposure to Alteryx, Vertex, Oracle, or other systems a plus but not required.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred, but equivalent experience considered.
