Role Summary

Nuuly is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join the analytics team and help bring data-driven insights and decision making to functions including buying/planning, logistics, finance, customer service, marketing, and user experience. The analytics team works to solve problems and answer questions that cannot be answered by a dashboard; these often require testing, simulations, model building, causal analysis, and a strong emphasis on data storytelling. Nuuly’s unique business model presents questions that have often not yet been solved for the industry, presenting an opportunity to use data to pave the way forward.

This is a senior individual contributor role with high visibility, expected to set technical direction and mentor others. You are a strategic problem solver and are able to take ambiguous questions and independently turn them into actionable insights. You are curious and love to immerse yourself in data to drive business value. You are organized and attentive to detail, and value precisely and clearly documenting analyses. You are an organization-wide thought leader, always on the forefront of new technologies and data science & machine learning approaches. You enjoy acting as a technical mentor to analysts, providing guidance on code quality, analytical approaches, and strategic thinking.  You enjoy being a liaison among the URBN data community, leveraging the shared expertise of a highly technical team of data scientists with the business-facing analytics team.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead analytics initiatives that shape business strategy, especially in high-priority domains like inventory optimization and planning. Over time, flex across domains (e.g., marketing, logistics, finance), becoming a trusted strategic partner across the org.
  • Bring data science capabilities, such as ML modeling and advanced statistical concepts, to the Nuuly analytics team.
  • Design and run experiments (e.g., A/B tests, causal inference studies) to measure the impact of strategic initiatives and inform decision-making at scale.
  • Conduct complex analyses independently in Google BigQuery (SQL) and Python. Run simulations and conduct statistical analyses on test results.
  • Serve as a liaison between technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating data into insights.
    • Work with stakeholders to understand the meaning & intent behind their questions, not just perform question-and-answer services. Partner with stakeholders to inform strategy, suggesting new approaches, introducing new metrics to better understand the business, etc.

Role Qualifications

  • 4+ years in a data science or applied ML role, preferably with consumer-facing or e-commerce applications
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL
  • Strong statistical and analytical skills (e.g., hypothesis testing, distributional analysis, uncertainty estimation)
  • Experience with a wide range of ML techniques (e.g., tree-based models, clustering, neural networks, time series forecasting) and model evaluation (troubleshooting, metrics, benchmarking)
  • Strong familiarity with ML tools and libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Jupyter Notebooks)
  • Ability to translate business problems into technical solutions and communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Additional

  • Strong interest in learning the Nuuly business
  • Positive attitude and excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to deliver on tasks
  • Ability to think critically and develop creative solutions to complex problems

Preferred Skills

  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field
  • Experience working with Google Cloud Platform or other cloud infrastructure (e.g., GCS, BigQuery, Compute Engine)
  • Familiarity with orchestration and ML workflow tools (e.g., MLflow, Airflow, Kubernetes)
  • Experience in retail, fashion, logistics, or subscription services
