This role combines hands-on technical leadership with people management, requiring someone who can architect complex cloud solutions while building and mentoring a high-performing DevOps engineering team.

As a hands-on technical leader, you will be deeply involved in architecture decisions, implementation oversight, and complex problem-solving. You'll drive our platform infrastructure strategy on Google Cloud Platform, establish DevOps best practices, and enable our continuous delivery transformation supporting daily deployments across our microservices ecosystem.

This position requires exceptional communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, translate technical concepts for executive leadership, and foster a culture of continuous improvement within your team. You'll balance strategic architectural guidance with tactical execution, ensuring both technical excellence and team development.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture design for complex infrastructure challenges and make foundational technical decisions that establish patterns for the broader engineering organization

  • Design and implement scalable cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform, including advanced Kubernetes Engine and Compute Engine configurations

  • Establish and evangelize Infrastructure as Code practices using Terraform, ensuring consistent and repeatable environment provisioning

  • Architect comprehensive CI/CD pipelines with automated quality gates supporting daily deployment frequency

  • Design GitHub Actions workflows and maintain continuous integration/deployment systems

  • Implement advanced monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions while optimizing distributed systems architecture

  • Design complex VPC configurations, network security frameworks, and multi-tier load balancing strategies

  • Directly manage, mentor, and develop 2-3 DevOps engineers, providing career guidance and technical coaching

  • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and create individual development plans aligned with both personal growth and business needs

  • Foster a collaborative team environment that encourages knowledge sharing, innovation, and continuous learning

  • Establish team processes, standards, and best practices that scale with organizational growth

  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to executive leadership, translating infrastructure needs into business impact

  • Lead cross-team initiatives and manage project timelines, resource allocation, and deliverable prioritization

  • Escalate technical roadblocks and advocate for necessary infrastructure investments

  • Break down complex technical initiatives into actionable work streams with clear milestones and success metrics

  • Stay current with industry trends and evaluate new technologies for potential adoption

Role Qualifications

  • 8+ years of DevOps and cloud infrastructure engineering experience with demonstrated technical leadership

  • Some direct people management experience, including hiring, performance management, and team development

  • Extensive experience designing and managing enterprise-scale infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform or similar cloud platforms

  • Deep expertise in Kubernetes deployment, monitoring, scaling, and advanced orchestration patterns

  • Proven track record establishing Infrastructure as Code practices using Terraform or similar tools

  • Advanced networking expertise including VPC design, load balancers, firewalls, and multi-region architecture

  • Strong experience with containerization, microservices architecture, and DevOps pipeline design

  • Experience with GitHub Actions, CI/CD implementations, and automated testing frameworks

  • Exceptional communication skills with ability to present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Strong project management and organizational skills with experience coordinating cross-functional initiatives

  • Experience with streaming data systems, particularly Kafka and event-driven architectures

  • Background in security best practices and compliance frameworks

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent professional experience
