Free People Intimates Senior Designer – Foundations
 

Free People Intimates is seeking a Senior Designer responsible for creating the seasonal foundations: cut & sew soft bra’s, UW bra’s, undies, as well as seamless bra’s & undies. The Senior Designer will focus on designing into a seasonal line plan & working on the development direction and trends that identify where to drive newness while protecting core business needs within our private label & market product.

Role Responsibilities

  • Develop seasonal product with a focus on style, fit and fabric, while identifying key trends in Bra’s & Undies to push newness to go after that will continue to help build the foundations business.
  • Collaborate and communicate with key partners throughout the design process including Global Head of Design, Product Development, and Market vendors on sourcing/ developments to utilize in upcoming assortments and support new ideas to go after within foundations. This pertains to but not limited to fabrics, embellishment artworks, print developments, and trim sourcing.
  • Present impactful seasonal design presentations built around seasonal line plan to Design/ Merchandising Leads focusing on key trends & fabrications aligned on w/ Global Head of Design. Executing vision with detailed illustrator sketches and Ai visualizations to support vision.
  • Collaborate with Print & Color team on seasonal print & color direction and assortment, CADing colorways for color multiplying opportunity throughout the development process.
  • Create detailed tech packs, focusing on construction, drape and finishing techniques to ensure first prototypes come in accurate and in line with brand's expectations. Updating & maintaining BOMs in Tradestone for private label & communicating updates in Excel for market to ensure accuracy on protos and bulk.
  • Anticipate/solve potential issues and provide conflict resolution during fittings and communicate comments to Market vendors for UW & Seamless prototypes.
  • Manage development and execution of trim/ early fabric development packages and managing follow up communication with cross functional partners/ market vendor’s on developments status.
  • Partner with market vendor’s & in-house cross functional partners daily to follow up on the status of styles in development to ensure product execution meets design specifications and are on track in style development process.

Role Qualifications

  • UW Foundation background and experience is required.
  • Strong sense of technical design and passion for technical portion.
  • Knowledge across cut & sew knits and wovens fabrications within bras and undies are a must.
  • Strong understanding of foundations apparel construction, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with seamless is a plus.
  • Excellent hand and computer sketching/ CAD skills in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop as well as Procreate. Ai knowledge/experience would be a plus!
  • Experience in Research and Development with a clear understanding of future technologies and trends in Foundations.
  • Strong project management skills & ability to work independently managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Some experience with managing 1-2 team members would be added value.
  • Strong presentation skills to showcase designs and collections to internal teams, executives, buyers, and merchandising.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey design concepts.
  • Proficient in Microsoft platforms (Excel, PowerPoint & Word) 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in apparel design with a focus on intimate apparel, swim, or activewear and with related field experience.

Years of experience required: 8-10 years minimum of design experience with a focus in Bras and/or Swimwear, Activewear Innovation or related area of business preferred.
