Role Summary

Nuuly is hiring a Senior Data Scientist. The URBN Data Science organization builds, deploys, and maintains Machine Learning systems that drive innovation across the URBN portfolio. Our full-service team combines machine learning, software engineering, data engineering, analytics, and program management to deliver scalable, production-ready solutions.

As part of URBN Data Science, the Nuuly team is responsible for all advanced analytics, reporting, and ML initiatives across the Nuuly brand. We partner closely with engineering to develop systems that power core customer and operational functions—including personalization, dynamic pricing, forecasting, and warehouse optimization.

The Senior Data Scientist will act as a technical and strategic leader within the Nuuly Data Science team, applying advanced machine learning and statistical techniques to high-impact problems. This role will drive end-to-end project execution and shape the roadmap for ML solutions at Nuuly.

Role Responsibilities

  • Model Development & Deployment: Design, prototype, and operationalize ML models that support customer experience, inventory management, pricing, and logistics. Approaches range from classic regressions to deep learning. Work with ML engineers to deploy containerized inference services into production environments.
  • Business-Driven Analytics: Identify opportunities to drive value using ML, working cross-functionally with stakeholders in Product, Engineering, and Operations. Design and lead analyses to validate business hypotheses and influence decisions.
  • Project Ownership: Lead and contribute to multiple concurrent projects. Drive scoping, experimentation, model iteration, stakeholder communication, and post-deployment monitoring. Contribute to sprint planning and roadmap prioritization.
  • Mentorship & Collaboration: Provide technical mentorship to junior data scientists. Partner with Engineering and Product to ensure ML solutions are scalable, measurable, and robust in production.

Role Qualifications

  • 4+ years in a data science or applied ML role, preferably with consumer-facing or e-commerce applications
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL
  • Strong statistical and analytical skills (e.g., hypothesis testing, distributional analysis, uncertainty estimation)
  • Experience with a wide range of ML techniques (e.g., tree-based models, clustering, neural networks, time  series forecasting) and model evaluation (troubleshooting, metrics, benchmarking)
  • Hands-on experience deploying ML models to production (e.g., containerization, monitoring, A/B testing)
  • Strong familiarity with ML tools and libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Jupyter Notebooks)
  • Experience working with large-scale distributed data systems and real-time data pipelines (e.g., Kafka)
  • Ability to translate business problems into technical solutions and communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Additional:

  • Strong interest in learning the Nuuly business
  • Positive attitude and excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to deliver on tasks
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to think critically and develop creative solutions to complex problems

Preferred Skills

  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field
  • Experience working with Google Cloud Platform or other cloud infrastructure (e.g., GCS, BigQuery, Compute Engine)
  • Familiarity with orchestration and ML workflow tools (e.g., MLflow, Airflow, Kubernetes)
  • Experience in retail, fashion, logistics, or subscription services
