Role Summary

Free People Free-est design team is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Associate Creative Technical Designer to join their team. This position would collaborate with the entire Free-est team across Free-est Knits, Wovens and Swim categories. This position would support the development throughout the product’s life cycle with a focus on early developments and late add creative mocks and would be reporting into the Free-est Assistant Design Director.

 

As a member of this team, you will be supporting the Free-est Design team in working closely together on creating new ideas, mocking, sewing and supporting new style ideas that would be used for both design presentations and bulk prototyping.

 

This role requires a good of interpersonal communication, creative problem solving, technical expertise and knowledge around cut & sew knits and woven fabrications.

 

This person should thrive in a fast-paced and multi-faceted environment as well as be a self-starter and passionate about the technical side of designing and creating new ideas.

Role Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Support & collaborate with the Design Team by offering technical expertise and knowledge on best ways to execute Design’s vision while thinking about what’s best for production.
  • Sew the sample garment accurately using proper machinery and tools. Discuss any sewing problems with the design team and come up with creative solves to achieve design’s vision
  • Adjust and correct patterns accordingly based on any questions at half mock up stage
  • Protect brand integrity through fit continuity including development and utilization of blocks and understand the Free-est category’s standards.
  • Maintain daily communication and interaction with Designers to ensure product stays on schedule.
  • Conduct quality assessments and inspections throughout the development process to maintain high standards of fit, construction, and durability.
  • Maintain accurate records of patterns, technical specifications, fit comments, and sample revisions.

Role Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Exceptional eye to identify fit issues & recommend solutions and always keeping in mind original design’s vision.
  • Must possess knowledge of pattern making & garment construction. Strong comprehension of measurements, dimensions, clothing construction and fit for all silhouettes (ie, swim, tops, pants, dresses, one pieces)
  • Understanding of raw materials and technicalities related to each fabrication.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or proof of understanding construction and patternmaking
  • Must have good time management, organizational skills, excellent verbal & written communication skills and sense of urgency.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2-4+ years of previous technical Design industry experience. In depth sewing experience required
  • Ability to quickly sew and produce a sample not only from a paper pattern but also from a design sketch
  • Knowledge of Pattern making and sewing construction is a must
  • High level of workmanship, attention to detail, with sense of urgency and sensitive to deadlines
  • Strong communication skills to liaison with manager and designers
