Role Summary

Free People Movement is seeking a Temporary Assistant Designer to support the development process of Performance Outerwear Apparel design. This role works in support of Designer with seasonal development calendar by executing original design ideas and business goals.

 

This role is a 3 month Temporary assignment (Maternity Leave Coverage), targeted to start in June 2025.  This role will be on-site at our Home Office in Philadelphia 4-5 days per week.

Role Responsibilities

 

  • Translate new ideas for upcoming seasons and presentations by sketching and/or mocking.
  • Maintain an active role in the weekly Design Flow Meetings. Take notes and manage follow up communication on all outstanding issues in collaboration with Designer.
  • Support seasonal development calendar in partnership with designer/buyers/technical designers/production.
  • Execute specific design development projects as assigned by Designer and manage development and execution of trim and artwork packages.
  • Set up spec sheets for all performance outerwear product & assist Design Lead with developments, overviews, proto samples & follow-up communication as needed.
  • Partner with PD on the status of styles in development daily to ensure product execution meets design specifications and are on track in style development process.
  • Assist in completing technical sketches for new seasonal product assortment, set up spec sheets for all perfromance outerwear designs & assist Designer with seasonal developments as well as follow-up communication as needed.
  • Prepare development packages and participate in follow up communication related to each package.
  • Review incoming garments with Designer and PD partners to ensure they are correct and in line with original intent as well as brand standards.
  • Assist in sample preparation for monthly sales review meetings by collaborating with Designer on innovative presentations that effectively communicate line to Buyers and Brand leaders.
  • Support in executing original design ideas through draped & sewn mocks in preparation for key meetings.
  • Proactive and willingness to perform special tasks as needed.

Role Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Apparel Design or related field preferred.
  • Design Assistant : 1-3  Years of related experience.
  • Design tools: Procreate, Adobe (Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Sewing, draping, mocking experience.
  • Excellent communication skills to communicate ideas and inspirations to others and to interact with Designers, Buyers and other Cross Functional partners. 
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to intuitively respond and reprioritize as needs shift during the development process.
  • Entry level technical knowledge of performance outerwear apparel construction.
  • Entry level knowledge of fabric technologies and treatments, as well as product excellence in construction, as well as wash and dye techniques
  • Ability to hand sketch and communicate design ideas via computer program.
  • Ability to relocated to or current residence in or within commuting distance to Philadelphia, PA
