Role Summary

Free People is looking for a buying intern to join their team this Summer. Our Apparel Buying intern will support the daily operational functions within your designated buying area; offering your unique perspective, supporting the buying team in managing the overall merchandise selection, trend research and building key cross functional relationships with both the market and internal partners: distribution center, design, and production.

The URBN 2025 Summer Internship Program will run from 6/2 through 8/8 at our Home Office in Philadelphia, PA.  

 

Summer Internship Program Application Process:

    

  1. Apply to one (1) internship posting that best suits your interest & skills.  If there is a project component in the application (see below within role qualifications), it is required that you submit this to be considered for a position.  This is due at the time of your application submission.

  

  1. Complete Video Interview: Candidates selected will receive an email with a link to complete a video Interview. You will have 2 days to complete this portion of the application once the email is received.   

  

  1. Interviews will be scheduled with our internal teams, continuing on a rolling basis.    

  

Applications will close at 5:00pm EST on November 4th 2024. 

Role Responsibilities

  • Attend buying meetings regarding product selection, design, and style 
  • Support the daily designated buying area and collaborate with the assistant or associate buyer on all necessary tasks 
  • Brainstorm and research new products and trends within assigned category of the business 
  • Managing samples/the flow of merchandise 
  • Learn the product lifecycle and buying’s role in the process  

Role Qualifications

  • Ability to prioritize projects and multitask  
  • Rudimentary understanding of retail math 
  • Detail oriented and creative thinker  
  • Strong relationship building skills and ability to work cross functionally 
  • Proficient in Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint  
  • Retail experience preferred  

 

Project Requirement:

 

In addition to your application and resume, to be considered for this role you must submit a Concept Board (8.5 X 11 PDF format is preferred). This is due at the time of your application submission. Once you complete your project, please upload it to additional documents section in the application process.

  • Create a marketing campaign concept board focused on Fall 2025 featuring tears of images (still life styling, editorial, artistic, branding, etc.) that you find aspirational for the brand’s creative direction and could be used as a potential collective campaign idea across email, digital and social platforms  
  • You may use visuals from blogs, Instagram, magazines, etc. to show your point of view but be sure to think like a marketer when pulling your aspirational tears and compiling the concept board.  
  • Be sure to include 2-3 influencers you could see as partners with this Fall 2025 campaign and why you think they would be great fits with our brand.
